Another week, another Kaishu massive air. After his impressive air back at the Olympics in Beijing in 2022 that broke world records during the final, Kaishu has broken that record TWICE in the last few weeks at The Snow League, going over 25 feet out in Aspen and Laax. According to The Snow League, his latest backside air in the halfpipe with another massive method in Switzerland was a whopping 7.72m or 25’4″. Ally Watson caught up with him for a few quick questions while he was actually on the ground. Photos by Jake Kirby.

Can you go even bigger? Which pipe will it go down in?
I think I was already pushing the limits of how high I could jump at this Snow League in Laax,
so I can’t really imagine going any higher than that. If I try to increase my speed to aim for even greater height, I’ll end up traveling too far of a distance in the air, making it difficult to convert that energy into vertical height.

On every hit, you have a huge smile exactly when you tweak the method grab, what’s going through your head?
I don’t even realize it myself, but before I know it, I’m smiling. When I’m in the air, it’s so high up that I don’t really remember much. I’m focused on landing.
How do you spot your landing?
I’m watching to see if I land safely after reaching the peak of my jump. Then I’m just hoping to land safely.

At what point after an air that big do you know if you’ll put down a full run?
While the height of the Method tweak is important, I also wanted the full run to look cool, so I decided on that from the start.
