Aspen, Colo., January 25, 2013 – In a groundbreaking competition, Torstein Horgmo, 25, of, Oslo, Norway, won America’s Navy Snowboard Big Air competition with a crowd-pleasing and innovative switch backside triple cork 1440.

“This is the craziest level of riding I’ve ever been a part of,” he said, “The level just got pushed so high.”

Horgmo attributed his success and the overall high-level of performance to the engineering behind the X Games Big Air jump.

“It’s one of the best jumps ever built,” said Horgmo.

Horgmo and silver medalist, Mark McMorris, 19, of Regina, Canada, along with bronze medalist, Stale Sandbech, 25, of Olso, Norway, had a battle of the triple corks, matching each other run for run. McMorris’ unprecedented cab triple cork 1440 tied up the score, but Horgmo’s last run scored two points higher landing him the gold.

“No one’s ever done that,” said McMorris of his silver medal trick, “I’m so proud to be a part of progressing the sport and doing something new.”

Right in the mix was Stale Sandbech, who also landed an impressive backside triple cork 1440.
