It’s been official for awhile, but the East Coast has the best snow conditions in the country right now. That’s set to continue this week, as that high pressure ridge continues to sit on the western United States, keeping things dry and sunny, while a trough streamlines snow into the Northeast.

Note: All snow totals listed are taken Wednesday morning and derived from the five day powder forecast on OpenSnow.com. Forecasts are subject to change.

The Northeast

Currently, Jay Peak Resort is sitting on a nice 50 inch base after 36 inches of snow in the past seven days, and the resort has had 220 inches of the white stuff grace its slopes this season. That’s more than many western resorts have reported. The trend will continue this week for Vermont, as smaller storms will impact the state over the course of the rest of the week. Southern Vermont resorts like Bromley, Mount Snow and Magic Mountain should expect about eight inches of snowfall from Thursday through Sunday. In the North, Jay Peak, Stowe and Sugarbush are all looking at about five inches of new snowfall.

New York looks to benefit the most compared to other states with this snow storm, which will hopefully take the sting away from a certain high profile football game that occurred recently. Through Sunday, Buffalo Ski Club, Kissing Bridge, Peek n’ Peak and Belleayre Mountain will all be in the 12 to 15 inch range. Get out the pow board. In the Granite State (New Hampshire, duh!) most areas should remain in the five inch range for the rest of the week. Look to the northern mountains for the best snow, such as Loon, Bretton Woods and Wildcat. Maine will likely be looking at fairly minimal snow totals, in the three to five inch range. New to the Powder Alert this week, the Canadian Provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Small resorts like Martock (NS), Wentworth (NS) and Poley Mountain (NB) will be in the 20 to 36 inch range. Anyone looking to go on an adventure to a new zone, think about Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Alberta and British Columbia

A decent band of snow will move into Alberta on Saturday night, which should bring six inches of fluff to Lake Louise, Sunshine Village and Mount Norquay. The northern heli-board and cat operations in British Columbia will look to continue getting hammered with snow, while resorts on the coast and in the interior will probably receive a dusting to two inches of snow through Sunday.

Mid-Atlantic

Like their northeastern brethren, the Mid-Atlantic states will receive a nice gift from Üllr this week, with the majority of snow falling on Sunday. In West Virginia, Snowshoe is looking at a solid seven inches of accumulation by Sunday, while on the coast at Wisp (Maryland), seven inches are also projected. In Pennsylvania, Shawnee, Jack Frost and Camelback can expect six to eight inches of the goods. At Mountain Creek (New Jersey), 12 inches of new snow is set to fall, with about eight or so inches coming on Sunday.

Midwest

Resorts situated near or on Michigan‘s Upper Peninsula are expecting steady snowfall throughout the week. A little accumulation each day will translate into a powder day on Sunday. Blackjack Mountain (MI) and Whitecap Mountain (WI) will be in the 10 to 11 inch range, while the rest of those two states will remain in the six inch range.

Colorado

Resorts woke up to some nice snow totals on Wednesday morning (Monarch reported seven inches), but the next chance for significant snowfall for the majority of the state will come next week. While you wait for the pow, enjoy the sun, rip some groomers, hit the park and continue those snow dances.

Utah

Like much of the western United States, Utah will continue to wait for that high pressure ridge to get the f’ outta town, but higher elevations are still riding well, and there’s still plenty of fun to be had out there.

The Northern Rockies

Aside from a chance at a dusting in Montana, it’ll remain dry in the Northern Rockies for the next week or so.

The Sierra Nevada

After solid storm totals from last week, the snow will cease in California. Be sure to get after any remaining pow while you can. In the meantime, check out how Sierra at Tahoe was riding this past weekend, below.

Pacific Northwest

The unusual winter in the PNW will continue this week, as the only projected snow will be an inch or two at Mt. Baker on Thursday.
