Merging technology into snowboarding has been tried for years, but Recon Instruments has taken it to the next level with the Recon MOD and MOD Live. We sampled the new technology at this year’s SIA Snow Show in Denver and really dug features it had to offer. That’s if you’re into the technology craze.
Some people might just enjoy a good day of soul shredding while others want to stay connected 24/7. With the Recon MOD (Micro Optics Display) your whole shred world is turned into a digital paradise right inside your goggles. From tracking your speed, vertical feet and altitude to jump analytics, live temperatures, distance traveled and location data, the Recon MOD ($299.99) will have you teched out for your next mountain adventure.
Upgrade to the Recon MOD Live ($399.99) and the features keep on coming. It seamlessly hooks up to your Android device (no word on iPhone connectivity yet) so you can read texts and answer phone calls right from your goggles. If that’s not enough you can track your location and friends on hill, control your music wirelessly and get a live view of what you’re recording on your Contour POV.
Its Bluetooth remote connects easily to your goggle strap, wrist or belt; and with the large easy to use buttons you never have to remove your gloves to change a song or answer a call.
You can snag the MOD & MOD Live in the Zeal Z3 (video), Smith IO/X Recon and Scott Nav-R-2 (see all goggles). We’re pretty confident Recon is working closely with more manufacturers as the season nears. So keep an eye out for you favorite goggle sporting the new Recon tech.
