If anyone had doubts on us having fun boy are they mistaken. Here Eddie Wall, Aaron Biittner, Casillo, and ladies pose for a snapshot at the Target party on the last night of X Games. Photos and Words by Tawnya Schultz It’s been a few weeks since the dust has settled from the summer X Games craziness and I planned to write a lot sooner but one thing in particular held me up- literally. My original idea was this: Head to summer X down in L.A. and blog about the snowboard scene since many pro shreds are out and about during the event. Good idea I reckoned but on the second night of the games I was mugged by three girls in downtown L.A. They stole my purse meaning no camera, I.D., money, etc., etc…socked me in the head, pulled a knife on me…and the story only gets better from there.X Games Thursday July 30: Day and Night One Ya see the fucked up part is I had photos of all this and this could have been a great blog full of sweet action photos and lifestyle shots of what happened on Thursday but well things don’t always come together as planned. Just stick with me for a minute though. On Thursday I met my Dad at the Staples Center to catch the Skateboard Big Air, Moto Whip, and Moto Step Up competitions. Let me tell you this- it’s pretty rad to watch the events on TV but being there in person really lets you grasp the magnitude of what these athletes are doing. If you ever get a chance to go I highly recommend it because it’s pretty damn cool. As I went to grab a beer in between events I randomly ran into a few shred peeps. Doran Laybourn, Scotty Arnold, Erin Comstock, and Heikki Sorsa were busy trying to sneak into the Monster suite. We said our hellos and talked about what parties were going to be good that night. The DC party on the roof of the Downtown Standard was sure to be poppin’ so I knew where I was headed. Anyway here are a few highlights from EXPN from the games and thanks to James Sullivan from BNQT for the party pics. Gold Standard Party from BNQT DC took over the Standard and renamed it “The Gold Standard” in honor of the DC athletes who have won more than 75 medals at summer X Games over the last 15 years. Throughout the weekend the place was a who’s who of action sports legends. Many members of the DC snowboard team were also in the house including Eddie Wall, Lauri Heiskari, and Kimmy Fasani. It was a good drunken night overlooking the lights of downtown L.A. and reuniting with some old friends. Big ups to DC for doing it real big all weekend. Day and Night Two After a quick stop by the Carl’s Jr. Skate Park Rob Dyrdek helped opened earlier this year it was back to the Staples Center for another afternoon of insane entertainment. The day called for the Skateboard Big Air Rail Jam where Danny Way, who was on crutches the day prior, proceeded to drop in switch crashing all but one time to taking the gold. Then it was BMX Big Air where a double front flip was landed flawlessly twice although was still not enough to win the event. And then it was Moto Best Trick-one of my favorite events of X- where Travis Pastrana landed way short attempting his Toilet Paper Roll sending him out of the competition. In the end it was Kyle Loza who took the win for the third year in a row. Check out many video clips at the bottom of this post. Anywho after all that excitement it was time to change and make my way back to the Standard to meet up with some friends and go party at the Fantasy Factory for the Monster party where Clipse and Fabolous were set to perform. Rob Dyrdek was kind enough to open his doors for the night and no doubt it was about to get wild. Being invited to attend a party at the Fantasy Factory is any action sports lover’s dream. It’s like getting a golden ticket to the Playboy Mansion- almost. Sooo on my way to the Standard I’m all dressed up and excited for the night. I’m walking from my friends’ place about five blocks away when I cross a street with three girls on the corner- one of whom is pregnant with a belly shirt on. I’m more than halfway down the street when I hear running and as I turn around the girls are a few feet from me. They instantly start screaming and yelling for me to give them my purse and trying to grab it off my arm. I’m pretty much like ‘what the fuck is going on’ and my mind is racing a million miles a second as I’m simply not just going to give up my purse to these cracked out chic’s. Since I wasn’t letting up one of the girl’s proceeds to sock me in the side of the head a few times as I stumble back at this point surrounded and cornered into an entryway. As it dawns on me that I’m about to be beaten to death I practically throw the chic my purse distraught and confused. Keep in mind I somehow manage to have my phone in my hand the entire time and I’m on a main street in L.A. with cars driving by and people across the street. Crazy. So then as we’re almost to the end of the street I’m trying to talk rationally with this girl in hopes of somehow getting my purse back thinking about my id, money, camera, keys, and most importantly the tickets to the party. Shit’s not flying as we’re almost to end of the street and she keeps saying ‘don’t fuck with me’ and threatening me. As we reach the corner she pulls out a knife holding it a few inches from my stomach and tells me to cross to the other side of the street. By this time I’m like ‘I’m fucking outta here’ and run across the street as they run down the other side. As I begin to call 911 I stop to ask a few guys for help and they give me a blank stare and say ‘sorry.’ I run up to a hotel and the guys just tell me to call 911. It’s like a serious bad dream. No one would help me and when I finally get through to 911 they tell me they have no idea when they’ll be able to get an officer out. I’m like ‘fuck my life!’ Then I’m like ‘I need to get to this party somehow and I need to get completely wasted.’ Still in shock I get to the Standard where the DC Snow TM Zack Dalton, Eddie Wall and his girl, Lauri Heiskari, Kimmy Fasani, Cody Rosenthal and a few other peeps are waiting on a ride to the Fantasy Factory. I tell them what just happened and more or less that I don’t have an id, money, anything and they’re like ‘we’re getting you in, just come with us.’ Sierra Domaille who I was meeting from Nike shows up and we hop onboard. We arrive to a backed up line, fire marshal’s on the premises, and the door people claiming no one else is getting in. There is no way I am not getting in and my mentality never lets up. I tell the girl checking id’s my story and she’s the one who finally just tells me to go and pushes me inside. Success! Open bar here I come. The rest of the night is a little hazy but here’s the rundown- Carl’s Jr. catering, dance party with Clipse and Fabolous, and lots of alcoholic beverages. And yes the Fantasy Factory is even sicker in person than on TV. Thanks to Robbie D, DC, and Monster for throwing down. It was definitely a night to remember. Also big thanks to Sierra for lending me money to get a car key made and to be able to eat the rest of the weekend. You’re the best. Photobucket Here’s my only photo from the party taken at the photo booth from within of Sierra and I. Fantasy Factory Photo Booth Pics Fantasy Factory Pics from BNQT Day and Night 3 As I woke up with a splitting headache from both the alcohol and the shots to the dome I managed to get around to the Home Depot Center for X Games Day 3. It was a hot one and it was like Disneyland down there with about a zillion people moseying about. Getting from point A to point B was a bit of a struggle but I caught the very end of Skate Street and also Street Park which was one of the coolest things I saw all weekend. In the late afternoon the inside of the stadium featured men’s and women’s Moto X and men’s Moto Freestyle. I ended up missing the parties that night emotionally and physically exhausted by this point and of course sans id but from what I heard the ESPN party at the House of Blues went off with Ozzy Osbourne among others as did the Rockstar party with Pharell. I simply can’t be everywhere ya know. Day and Night 4 I needed some rest and relaxation poolside pronto and didn’t think I could manage another overly hot and crowded day at X. The Target peeps were in town set to throw a party at Chateau Marmot that evening so I made my way to my old stomping grounds of Hollywood and bronzed it up at the Chateau for the afternoon. Laura Anderson from Target kindly invited my friend Molly and I and it was more than amazing to just chill. Later that evening after freshening up it was time to end the weekend with a bang- H dub style. Here’s where I actually did get some pics- even though I did get yelled at a few times because of the Chateau’s no photo policy but I got a few to share. Photobucket So Cal rep Jeff Brusven (you’ll be seeing his face in lots of my pics) and Laura Anderson from Target who set the shindig up. Photobucket Party crew self portrait at the beginning of the night. Photobucket Eddie Wall’s beautiful girl and DC’s TM Zack Dalton. Photobucket Z Dalton and Kevin Casillo lost in the moment. Photobucket Dingo was on the premises. Photobucket Heikki got a haircut…someone else needs one. Target did it classy renting out a bungalow next to the pool complete with an open bar and amazing food. I should mention Shaun White was in the house and I was trying to take a picture of him and some ladies he was talking to when one of the girl’s chimed in ‘He can take a picture by himself.’ Oh Hollywood bitches they just never get old. Anyway Shaun was like ‘Uh, I’m going to go get a drink.’ Huh, S Dub getting dissed now there’s a new one. Don’t they know who he is? Aaron Biittner, Dingo, Kevin Casillo, and all kinds of other snow peeps were lurking about. The night surely ended the weekend proper. It was wicked fun. Photobucket These are the beezy’s that dissed S Dub. The two on the right. Photobucket Molly and I with Derek from Oakley. Photobucket Pro skier Simon Dumont (who I want to thank for getting me super drunk the night of the mugging) and his lovely lady Charlie. Photobucket The DJ was so hood…well more like waaaay into his own thing and not open to requests. It’s all good though. Photobucket This photo was cut off. It had these amazing mini burgers in it that were delicious. Photobucket Jonathan was the man…serving up all the yummy finger foods all night. Later things got weird- check out the girl to the right rolling it…oh yeah and pf course Jeff licking Molly’s face.
