Team SNOWBOARD Mag with DC team rider, Aaron Biittner, testing out the bed. Words by Tawnya Schultz / Pics by SNOWBOARD Mag Crew Although there was hesitation about attempting to rally our entourage at 4 p.m. to leave the trade show and charge across town to the DC media deal; the second we arrived at The Palms on the 34th floor and stepped through the doors of the $35,000 a night Playboy Hugh Hefner Suite our anxiety turned to awe and it was once again time to make party. The Playboy hot tub as seen on “The Girls Next Door.” Ken Block and Cristina Kown posing by the classic Marilyn Monroe. DC's Sean Lake with the bunnies…and the snowboards too.DC upped the ante and laced out the place with manikins featuring 09’ outerwear, shoes displayed over a water walkway, and most importantly a rack revealing the much anticipated DC snowboard line. Co-founder Ken Block spoke about what it took to get where they are now and their enthusiasm about taking over the market…well not in those words but yeah I’ll say it, DC definitely knows how to do it right. I mean we were at the Playboy Sky Villa remember, already buzzed off the top shelf only open bar, talking about snowboarding. Welcome to paradise. Come right in. Krissy and Andrea reppin’ SNOWBOARD Mag. Team unity. L to R Walsh, Fasani, Biittner, Horgmo, Backstrom, and Heiskari. The hottie new outerwear. Biittner and Horgmo checking out the boards. Block speaking at the presentation. A major part of the team hanging out at the presentation. Shoe display. Many of its snow team members were also in the house to show their support. Torstein Horgmo, Devun Walsh, Iikka Backstrom, Lauri Heiskari, Kimmy Fasani, and Aaron Biittner have had much say in the development and structure of the DC boards. Check out the February issue of SNOWBOARD Mag for a behind the scenes look at DC coming full circle. With its big name team already on lock and some ill graphics on its decks there’s gonna be many kids wanting to strap their feet on these puppies next year. We couldn’t get enough of the thing. Johnny is the best bartender ever. Krissy interviewing Ken Block. Old school Playboy. Game players Devun Walsh and Iikka Backstrom. Aaron Biittner and Lauri Heiskari getting comfy on the replicated Playboy mansion furniture. One of the major highlights of the night however was Hugh Hefner’s bedroom complete with the replicated and legendary rotating bed. It’s one of the illest things ever. How many people in this world get to say they’ve laid on this thing? Only those who have $35,000 to spend a night or are lucky enough to be invited. Damn the place is ridiculous. The two-story joint is complete with a full bar, elevator, playboy hot tub overlooking the strip, a sauna, work out area, and dope playboy photography and artwork to complete the décor. Needless to say for a bunch of dirt ball snowboarders the opportunity to kick it in the mini playboy mansion was quite surreal. There was only one complaint from some of the boys; there should have been many more bunnies roaming around. Except our own Dave Grisby, who apparently pulled a bunny into a closet for a private meeting. SNOWBOARD Mag Publisher Jeff Baker and DC’s Sean Lake getting some exercise while sippin' a cocktail. The legend. Andrea and I helping to take Iikka’s mind off being injured. Aaron taking some time to relax in the sauna. More product placement. The Palms bunnies feeling up Krissy. The Pharmacy boys posing with a bunny in training. The cutie pie DC baby holding it down. Lauri’s dream come true. Of course it has a mirror above the bed. Devun Walsh The DC Hazard The DJ setup. A taste of the new outerwear. More kicks. Flashy views. Watch out for DC boards next season because shit is gonna be poppin’. Thanks to everyone at DC: Ken Block and Cristina Kown especially and its entire team for holding it down.
