While in the office, Stan hung with Photo Editor, Mike Basher, and reviewed his photos from the season while Zach stayed busy multitasking for a few of his many jobs which include Mervin Manufacturing team/marketing manager, Red Bull team leader, and Oakley pro athlete and product developer. The SNOWBOARD Mag crew just finished production of the Premium Brand Buyers Guide so it was great that Stephen Nilsen (aka Stix) hooked us up with a custom Red Bull cooler to get us thru the grueling deadlines. Good lookin’ out Stix! Leach’s one footer…show off.After taking care of biz at the SNOWBOARD Mag office, it was time for some fun in the sun with our friends at Red Bull. Adam Bebout and Stix were gracious enough to organize a session at the American Supercamp in Fort Collins, CO. There we joined a few others industry folks from Copper Mtn. and Aspen/Snowmass. American Supercamp is an “improve your skills” course where professional instructors (Danny Walker, Michael Carder and Scott “Scooter” Larm) coach riders of all ages to get nasty out on the track. From beginner to expert the camp has something to offer for everyone. The day was more for fun than anything else, but a few people like Zach “Showboat” Leach felt the need for speed and whipped out some nice airs. Showboat Leach. Oakley’s Brad Melear. Three teams battled it out and but only one came out on top. Our own Mike Basher used his skills from working in the motocross industry to help lead the team to victory. The race was close but Eldrid “Dred” Bristol held off Michael Carder in the final lap to take it. Coach Michael Carder. Don’t confuse him for a snowboarder. Leach. They had many bikes of all sizes, all the gear we needed from head to toe, and even barbequed, had a spread of snacks, and off course plenty of Red Bull (and vodka- but only when we were done riding) to give us wings. I didn’t know what to except and was a little nervous but after being shown the ropes and given a little lesson I was all about it hitting up the super cross track. Our expectations were surpassed and it was definitely great to do something out of our element. Stan kept laughing at me because every time I took my helmet and goggles off I had a dirt ring around my face. For Baker’s first time being on a bike he definitely held it down and of course we had Mr. Motocross, Basher, who brought along bags of his own gear and jerseys with his name on ‘em. We ended up being there from 4 p.m. until almost 10 at night. And Leach was definitely killing it…Look out for him at X Games this weekend. He might just bust something out.
