Your move, Colorado.

The San Diego Padres have been parading snowboarders out to the mound to throw the first pitch the past few summers, with North County residents like Brock Crouch, Mark McMorris, and Big Bear’s Lenny Mazzotti coming to recent memory. They added another rider to the list this past week with Brandon Davis throwing out the first pitch before the team was swept by the Philadelphia Phillies. Even if they labeled him just as a “professional snowboard” on the Petco Park jumbotron, the job was done (and they showed a @gimbalgod clip).

The Padres rivals up the road (The Los Angeles Dodgers) hosted Chloe Kim for a first pitch after her Olympic gold in 2018, as did the Cleveland Guardians with Red Gerard after his Olympic win. We haven’t seen anything from the Rockies after Colorado’s own Jake Canter brought home bronze this year, but those teams are all still hinging on Olympic podiums. Brandon, Brock, and Lenny have never competed on that stage, but the Padres still show them love. Either the Siedler family (current owners of the Southern California team) is a big fan of snowboarding, or the sports agents just south of L.A. really like having a reason to go to Padres’ games. Either way, they are currently boasting the highest number of riders on the mound in recent memory, which is fine by us, but you’d think a team with mountains in its logo would probably want that title.

It is summer, what do you want?
