FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Saxtons River, VT — Vermont Academy has announced a major investment in a state-of-the-art airbag training facility on its Saxtons River campus in the Green Mountains of Southern Vermont, marking the first airbag training facility of its kind in the Northeast. The new installation significantly expands year-round training opportunities for skiers and snowboarders and reinforces Vermont Academy’s leadership in mountain sports education.
“This investment establishes Vermont Academy as the clear leader in off-season freeski and snowboard progression, immediately allowing our athletes to have a leg up on the competition because they can spend their summer months and free periods putting down new tricks that will serve them during winter competition months.” Ben Gardner Director Vermont Academy Mountain Sports.
Alongside the facility investment, Vermont Academy has also announced the hiring of Olympian Lucas Foster to its Mountain Sports program, bringing elite-level experience and mentorship directly to students training on campus.
“This facility expands what’s possible for snowboard and freeski athletes in the Northeast,” said Mike Peller, Head of School. “Paired with Lucas’s experience at the highest level of the sport, our students now have both the infrastructure and the mentorship to push progression while staying healthy. It’s about helping athletes make their own line—intentionally and sustainably.”
This Airbag training facility is the third of three critical investments in as many years bringing Mountain Sports athletes front and center at Vermont Academy
In addition to this Airbag facility Vermont Academy has invested in:
- A 30 student dorm facility five minutes from Carinthia Park at Mount Snow.
- A brand-new mountain bike flow trail in collaboration with Highland Bike Park that ends at the center of campus
- And now is redefining year-round progression with a world-class airbag training facility
Together, these investments reflect Vermont Academy’s mission to support student-athletes who are passionate about skiing, snowboarding, and mountain sports without compromising academic excellence.
