Filmed and edited by Brock Nielsen, “Varmin” is a celebration and documentation of Alex Pashley and the North Face crew’s trip to Alaska last spring. It also produced Pashley’s first cover with any of the U.S.-based snowboarding magazines landing on our first issue of the year featuring a shot of Austin Smith’s switch back 540. Sadly, we lost Pashley a handful of days after the trip ended but his spirit will be celebrated for eternity in the snowboarding community. Aside from all the kind words on how profound Pashley was in countless people’s lives, we will also miss his eye for capturing snowboarding. Last print season, he was the most published photographer in the four major mags out of the United States. An award that we never got to properly celebrate with him. We will miss you dearly, Pashley! Our hearts go out to his family and friends. Thanks for all the years of good times and unbelievable photos.

Words from the project below:
“Live, laugh, love.”
Facing good or bad, that was how Alex Pashley spent every day. This time in Alaska, bringing together a group of people and helping them excel at what they do, is a perfect example.
Shortly after the trip, Pash tragically passed away.
Shot between March 12 and 15, 2025, Varmin is a tribute to a spirit that will never be forgotten, a testament to his presence as a giant on the mountain, and a celebration of the life, the laughter and the love, from Pash, to his community.
