In 2012, Steve “Rocker” Anderson – an integral member of the Tahoe snowboarding community – passed away in an avalanche on Donner Summit. Since Rocker’s passing, the local and extended snowboarding community has banded together to design and construct a memorial skatepark in Rocker’s name. The “Rally for Rocker” banked slalom has since emerged as a means for a grassroots fundraising to help secure funds for said proposed skatepark. The 4th annual Rally for Rocker is scheduled for this coming Sunday, April 30th, so if you live in the Tahoe area make sure to sign up now and get yourself up to the pass this weekend. In the mean time, sit back and enjoy the fast times from last year’s race captured by Warp Wave.

More from the race organizers:

The 4th annual Rally for Rocker Banked Slalom Snowboard event will be held Sunday, April 30th on Donner Summit. While Banked Slalom races have become all the rage these days, the Rally for Rocker remains unique in the fact that the course is built in a back-country setting, highlighting the natural terrain. The course, as always, will be hand dug, which provides for a true DIY experience out in the woods. With Taylor Carlton, Dan Conroy, Brian Sizer, and Roan Rogers in charge of course design, this year’s features will prove to be nothing short of epic. A big shout-out goes to our many local and national sponsors that are contributing prizes for competitors as well as cash donations to the future Rocker Memorial Skatepark Fund. This gathering is in memorial for Steve “Rocker” Anderson and continues to be a celebration of his passion and stoke for snowboarding and skateboarding in the Tahoe community. Organizers are happy to be working with the National Forest Service by obtaining a permit and building a positive relationship as the event continues to grow in popularity. Five categories are being offered: Groms – age 14 and under, Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Over 40’s, and a category for the Snow Skaters too. All are invited to attend and everyone is eligible to register. Entry is $20 or $30 with a t-shirt. Registration will be held the day of the event from 9am to 1pm. Racers will begin dropping into the course at 1pm sharp.
