The Undead is the most popular board in Gilson’s line, with a graphic sure to get you noticed. Similar to the Bounty Hunter and their other boards, the Undead comes with a choice of two base options to choose from for your style of riding; as flat or 3D construction. Which is right for you? We’ve found that the flat base lends itself to a slightly more aggressive rider who is carving deep trenches at top speed where stability is key. The 3D base can also be ridden with maximum velocity, but the raised edge allows the rider a bit more catch-free forgiveness. The 3D base can also be of benefit riding in powder, especially in tighter tree runs where quick direction changes are needed. Lastly, the catch-free feeling of the 3D base is a real benefit to beginning riders, who are working on edge transitions between turns. This base helps to quickly build confidence, since the raised edges are less likely to catch in that vulnerable moment between turns.
Another important aspect of the Undead (among a few other boards in the Gilson lineup, like the Duel) are the cut-down nose and tail. By trimming unnecessary material at both ends of the board, Gilson is able to shave 6cm off the overall length of the board, and maintain a long effective edge. In other words, a 149cm will ride the same as a 155cm, which is especially useful in the park where shedding those 6cm will reduce overall weight of the board making for easier spins and maneuverability.
Speaking of park, the Undead was designed with the terrain park in mind. It can certainly hold its own all over the mountain, but the park is where it really shines. The waist of the Undead is reverse camber, and it has a positive camber section under each foot. This gives the board a nimble character at lower speeds, makes for easier presses and float in powder, but the positive camber under foot gives the core a lot of energy for a very undead feeling off of jumps.
