Since its creation, Burton’s Family Tree collection has cemented itself as a tried-and-true favorite for snowboarders looking to grip-it-and-rip-it from top-to-bottom. And while many of the shapes are storm-day ready, the line up of boards is made to excel in an all-terrain capacity on any day of the winter. The unique shapes, high-spec tech, and predilection for the kinds of turns that make up the nucleus of freeriding snowboarding joy with a freestyle-bent (high-speed groomer laps, days with free refills, and long and winding runs are just where things begin–of course there’s big mountain chops contained within the collection, too) have cultivated a cult following. Each fall, when new boards are added to the collection, the devout rejoice–and more become indoctrinated to the sheer joy of careening downhill on one of these decks. (For any additional proof as to the popularity of Burton’s Family Tree, please see the bright blue base of the Hometown Hero, a Burton team favorite.)

New additions to the Family Tree elicit a certain level of excitement because of the collection’s heritage and this year, three new snowboards have been added to the line up: the Power Wagon, Gril Master, and Short Stop (the latter is a personal favorite). Here is a run-down of the new 2024 boards.

Burton Family Tree Power Wagon

Quick rip: A directional board with directional camber and 5mm of taper, the Power Wagon was created from feedback of Burton’s roster of big mountain riders and ambassadors. It is a stiff and aggressive board that excels on steep, technical terrain and deep powder. The Power Wagon isn’t for the faint of heart; it’s geared for expert boarders who are looking for a reliable, yet nimble, ride in advanced terrain.

Burton says: Like a pickup truck that can take a beating and keep on truckin’, the Burton Family Tree Power Wagon Snowboard is for hauling ass, no matter the conditions. Its a full-gas board with a directional bias that keeps it stable without limiting its options. From the edge hold to handle bigger and steeper terrain to flex that supports speed and control, it’s an all-mountain ripper with a hint of big mountain freeride.

sizes: 148, 154, 160, 166, 154W

Burton Family Tree Gril Master

Quick rip: The limited edition Gril Master was released in the fall of 2023 to honor the legacy of Marko Grilc and it is his riding style and passion for snowboarding with his kids that brought the board to fruition. Now an in-line member of the 2024 Family Tree, the Gril Master is a do-it-all snowboard that is content for leisurely laps with younger members of the family and is ready to go governor-less when it’s time to pin it downhill. Like its Family Tree cohort, the Gril Master is great on a powder day, but similar to the Hometown Hero, it also can handle some laps through the park. In addition, the Gril Master sizes down all the way to 140 in the adult version and comes in a 130 for smaller boarders, making it truly a snowboard for-everyone snowboard.

Burton says: If the Gril Master were a car, it’d be a minivan with a Hemi engine. This directional camber all-mountain board puts a capital F in family fun. It’s the perfect board for a full day of riding with the kids or taking a breather and finding some solo side hits. This legacy board immortalizes Grilo’s love of riding, family, and exploring the mountains. Grilo Forever.

Burton Family Tree Short Stop

Quick rip: One run on this new 2024 board and you won’t want to put it away. Trust us. Even if you’ve ridden short and stocky boards before, this one is different. A nearly non-existent tail paired with a long running length means that you can push the board hard and slash to your heart’s content without washing out. Like riding tight trees and fresh powder? Add the Short Stop to your quiver immediately.

Burton says: The Short Stop delivers a well-balanced feel from tip to tail, offering quick and agile performance, especially in tight conditions that lead to fresh powder. This semi-tailless shape has a relatively long running length in comparison to its overall length. To achieve a harmonious ride with this tailless shape, the stance is centered on the running length—a feature rarely seen in such a directional board.

sizes: 142, 150, 156, 162
MSRP: $819.95
