It’s the end of January, which means people are talking about the Superbowl and doing their taxes, and SIA is here. SIA means fluorescent lights, exhaustion and beer. So here we are in Denver drinking overpriced Budweisers at a hotel bar, sorting the highlights from a day at the Colorado Convention Center. There’s a lot of cool stuff coming out for 2016/2017. Here’s some of it.

Patagonia is introducing a new jacket into their snow line, called the Stretch Nano Storm. If you look at it, it doesn’t seem waterproof. If you touch it, it doesn’t feel waterproof. But according to Patagonia, its 20K waterproof rating is bested only by its breathability. The jacket will retail for $449, which depending on your point of reference is either really expensive or really cheap.

686 got the Gore-Tex license, so you can expect the Tex on their high-end pieces, including the GLCR Weapon Jacket. Pat Mac is backing it and logging days in the Baker backcountry, of course.

Kazu Kokubo is getting a pro model. Not surprisingly, it’s directional. The Kokubo Pro features with CAPiTA’s new MOUNTAIN V3 camber profile, which essentially a cambered board from the front inserts to the tail with a rockered nose. The size-run is on the shorter side of freeride boards, with a 151, a 154 and a 156 in the line.

L1 took a cue from Alex Olson or the guy who painted their booth and has some coke-white outerwear in the line. Be careful out on the mountain in this kit. It’s not high-vis in a snowstorm.

Bryan Fox and Austin Smith’s ever-evolving Nitro Quiver line changes again next season, with two current boards on the roster remaining — the Cannon 183 and the Pow 154. New for 2017 are the Treehugger 149, which is a tapered swallowtail, and the Nuat 163, which is a tapered, funny-shaped pintail.

Deeluxe gave Euro backcountry annihilator Elias Elhardt a pro model boot designed for “all-mountain freestyle,” which basically means it’s a medium-stiff boot. It also comes with three liner options. Not many boot brands give you multiple liner options in a single model.
