Rob Kingwill is all over the map, literally. When he’s not ripping his home mountain, Jackson Hole, you can find him pointing it down peaks in New Zealand, Nepal or Japan. In the summers, Kingwill heads to the glaciers, where it has long been his mission to mold the next generation of snowboarders. He worked at Mt. Hood’s Windells for several years and was a major force at Whistler’s Camp of Champions for more than a decade. Indeed, snowboarding’s progression has always hinged on the mentorship of seasoned riders like Kingwill, 43. But such places, where young snowboarders can gain instrumental guidance in between seasons, are shrinking. Camp of Champions announced in summer 2017 that it would close due to Whistler Blackcomb’s melting glacier.

Kinger, of course, is still finding ways to impart his wisdom on snowboarding’s burgeoning eminence. Just a couple weeks ago, that included an evening riding session at Timberline Lodge’s Pro Park with the U.S. Snowboard and Freeski teams. Check some of the summer goods at Mt. Hood here.
