Red Bull Slopesoakers is set to return to Copper Mountain on April 15, 2017, with larger ponds and features than ever before. This one-of-a-kind competition combines elements from slopestyle, rail jams, and a pond skim, all for one seriously wet contest. Whether you intend to compete or simply watch the contestants throw down under the sun, this is one season ending party you don’t want to miss.
The details for this year’s contest are as follows:
SlopeSoakers 2017 is open to 150 riders across both snowboard and ski categories. Contestants will compete in a jam format competition with four 20-minute heats, encouraging riders to take on the course as many times as they can in the given time frame. Participants will be judged on their costumes, creativity, tricks, skimming style, crowd reaction and technical difficulty, earning up to ten points for each category. The top competitors will move on to a final heat, also lasting 20 minutes.
Awards will be given to best overall snowboarder male and female, overall best costume, overall best crash and overall best trick for a snowboarder.
And for the first time in the event’s six-year history, University of Colorado Boulder engineering students have designed the course layout. Over the past five months, the college students received hands-on experience in snow park design. Five teams of engineering students presented the craziest and boldest course ideas and were judged on completion, feasibility, creativity and cohesiveness. Team “Purple Cobras” was chosen to see their course vision come to life, promising to deliver a course unlike any other. The jungle-themed course is set to include a banana rail, a swing and other exciting variables.
