As I was compiling Matt’s Focal Point submission, I experienced something that I try so hard to achieve with my own photographs: it felt like I was there. Looking at these photos and reading the stories behind them created such a overwhelming feeling of emotion. It was powerful, and from only from a small selection of images. Matt’s scope of work is vast: digital, analog, black, white, color, portrait, action or abstract, but the one thing holds it all together is his calculated eye for incredible composition. This past year Matt was tediously working on a hand-bound book project titled The Dirty Dogs, a visual anthology of black & white photography from snowboarding’s best lensmen in a limited run of 500 copies (which is a lot when you make them yourself) that you should definitely pick up for encouraging conversation around your coffee table. Snowboard Magazine, and myself, are grateful for individuals like Matt Georges who can capture our lifestyle in a way that truly inspires and he is the perfect addition to the Focal Point photo essay series. – Jens Heig, Online Editor

About Focal Point:

This photo essay series was designed to exhibit the countless photos that do not make it into the incredibly competitive pages of snowboarding magazines. Photos can be published or unpublished, taken 10 years ago or last season. Photographers are given up to 17 photographic categories to meet, each with the goal of showing a different aspect of life in snowboarding. All captions are written by the photographer.
